2008 New BMW X5 Review The beast is black, in some cases silver, or any other colour BMW offer the X5 in. The X5 is THE Sports activity vehicle from BMW. Built on an extremely strong platform with driver and front passenger airbags, front side door airbags, front and rear head airbags and Dynamic stability control (DSC) comprising: - anti lock braking system (ABS), automatic differential brake (ADB-X), automatic stability control (ASC-X), cornering brake control (CBC), dynamic brake control (DBC), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), engine drag torque control (MSR) and hill descent control (HDC) it is little wonder the BMW X5 scores a maximum five out of five in the Euro ncap safety ratings. There is a petrol or a diesel model at entry level for the X5, the 3.0i SE and the 3.0d SE, both are powered by six cylinder, 24 valve, 3.0 litre engines developing 231 and 218 hp respectively through a six speed manual transmission. The 3.0i SE and 3.0d SE both have 17Â? v-spoke alloy wheels (style 130) with locking wheel nuts amongst a host of other standard equipment that includes power assisted steering, self levelling rear air suspension, twin exhaust tail pipes (hidden exhaust tailpipes on the 3.0d SE), door handles and upper tailgate plinth in black, heat insulated green tinted glass all round, front indicators with clear lenses, electrically adjustable, aspheric, tinted door mirrors with casings in body colour, twin roof rails in black, heated twin double jet screen washer nozzles, a two piece tailgate with soft close on the upper section an electric release from a button on the tailgate, remotely from the car key or internally from the driver's cockpit with an emergency mechanical release from the load space, two head restraints in the front and three in the rear, manually adjustable front seats for height, seat back rake, fore and aft movement, plus seat tilt on the driver's seat, Thatcham 1 remote control alarm and engine immobiliser, brake force display, crash sensor activating central locking release, hazard warning lights, fuel cut off and interior lighting, front and rear fog lights, electric remote control height adjustment and light sensitive automatic activation headlights with wash system, front and rear park distance control (PDC), rain sensor for auto activation of both the headlights and windscreen wipers, side impact protection, tyre puncture warning system (TPWS), front armrest with hidden recess for optional telephone with fore and aft adjustment, auto air conditioning, auto air recirculation, micro filter with integrated carbon filter, 12V auxiliary twin power sockets in the rear, delayed courtesy lights, front and rear reading lights, interior night lighting, front and rear electric windows with fingertip control, gear stick gaiter and knob in leather, handbrake gaiter and handle in leather, lockable and illuminated glove compartment, retractable and removable luggage cover, nine function on board computer, auto anti dazzle rear view mirror, four spoke leather rimmed steering wheel, BMW business radio with single CD player and MP3 compatibility, preparation for a 6 CD multi changer and a 6 speaker loudspeaker system, dark poplar wood interior trim and metallic paint. With its eight cylinder V engine with four valve technology and valvetronic the X5 4.4i SE is the next model in the X5 range, powered by a 4.4 litre petrol engine and developing 320 hp through a six speed automatic steptronic transmission. 17Â? star spoke alloy wheels (style 57), door handles and upper tailgate plinth in the vehicles body colour, four tail pipes, electrically adjustable front seats for height, seat back rake, fore and aft movement, plus seat tilt with driver memory, door mirrors with memory for position, electric reach and rake adjustment for the steering wheel with driver memory, low and high beam xenon headlights with automatic height adjustment and light sensitive auto activation, double kidney grilles with chrome surround and titanium slats and Dakota leather upholstery all come as standard equipment in addition or replacement to the features on the 3.0i SE. All X5 SE models can be upgraded to the Sport level of trim this includes 19Â? star spoke alloy wheels (style 132), anthracite headlining, door handles and upper tailgate plinth in body colour, black high gloss interior trim, BMW front sports seats with electrical adjustment for height, seat back rake, fore and aft movement, tilt and manual adjustment for thigh pad, instrument bezels in matt finished chrome, memory function for the driver's seat, steering wheel and exterior mirrors, three spoke sports multi function steering wheel with leather rim, sports suspension and graphite interior trim all come as standard equipment in addition or replacement to the features on the SE models. Top of the shop in the X5 range is the 4.8is, choice of premiership footballers and pop stars the 4.8is is powered by a 4.8 litre eight cylinder V engine with four valve technology and valvetronic, developing a whopping 360 hp through a six speed automatic steptronic transmission. Sitting on 20Â? V-spoke alloy wheels (style 168) with 275/40 R20 (front) and 315/35 R20 (rear) tyres, rear side door airbags, anthracite headlining, six disc CD auto changer, four exhaust tail pipes with two chrome plated surrounds, black high gloss exterior trim, velour floor mats, BMW front sports seats with electrical adjustment for height, seat back rake, fore and aft movement, tilt and manual adjustment for thigh pad, instrument bezels in matt finished chrome, ten speaker hi-fi loudspeaker system, self levelling front and rear air sports suspension, graphite interior trim, three spoke sports multi function steering wheel with leather rim and exclusive soft nappa leather upholstery all come as standard equipment in addition or replacement to the features on the 4.4i SE. The All new seven seat BMW X5 is launched in march of 2007 and although the prices are listed above we are currently awaiting the review.
