2009 New Mazda RX8 Review
Everyone gets to a certain age when the sports car has to go. Not any more, take a look at the Mazda RX8, designed to carry four adults the Mazda RX8 has not compromised any of its sports styling, and with cleverly designed rearward opening rear doors (unfortunately known as suicide doors, as when they were originally proposed people thought you would get squashed by passing traffic, but if traffics that close it doesn't matter which way the doors open) there is plenty of room for both the driver and their passengers.
Mazda have a long history that has always included the rotary engine and the Mazda RX8 is no exception, benefiting from the use of Mazda's latest engine development, the Renesis rotary engine. Even though this is only a 1.3 litre engine, this twin bank rotary engine is amazing. The Mazda RX8 is available with two power outputs, the standard producing 192 ps and achieving a top speed of 139 mph, the high output unit pushes out 231 ps and races to a maximum speed of 146 mph. The standard unit applies its power through a five speed manual box with the high output benefiting from an extra sixth gear, both variants lay down the power through the rear wheels and the result is fantastic (its hard to find a bad review about the Mazda RX8).
The Mazda RX8, with superb styling, a fantastic engine, unbelievable road holding and the ability to carry you and your family in comfort you would think there had to be a down side, but it doesn't look like it, standard features include 18" alloy wheels with 225/45 R18 tyres, 17" brakes, anti lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), dynamic stability control (DSC) including traction control system (TCS) with cut off switch, a six CD Changer BOSE HiFi with AM/FM Radio and nine speakers, black cloth seat upholstery, alarm system, climate control, driver and passenger airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, electrically adjustable & heated exterior mirrors, front fog lights, halogen lights, height adjustable driver's seat, intrusion minimising brake pedal, mechanical tilt adjustable leather steering wheel with audio switches, front electric windows and remote central locking.
