2010 New Mercedes CL Class Coupe Review
Some cars look like supercars, Aston Martins, Ferraris and Bentleys to name a few, some hide their lights under a bushel. Welcome to the Mercedes CL Class Coupe, the styling may be restrained but the power and performance are anything but and that's how CL owners like it, a real wolf in sheep's clothing.
2007 saw the launch of the latest incarnation of the CL Class, more powerful engines and even more cutting edge technology will be used, ensuring the CL Class remains the top coupe in the Mercedes range.
Classic Mercedes coupe lines are the first thing you notice when you catch sight of the CL Class Coupe. From the long sweeping bonnet the eye is lead over the roof and down the sloping C pillar to the rear, the lack of a B pillar giving passengers an unbroken view to the side. All side windows are fully retractable and the panoramic rear window and sunroof that is fitted as standard give a light and airy feeling to the interior.
With the CL Class sharing its foundations with the S Class you get plenty of tricky technology to keep you on the straight and narrow and with the engines on offer in the CL Class you will probably need them. The CL 500 has a 388 bhp, V8 that accelerates you from 0 - 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. Powering the CL 600 is a 517 bhp, biturbo V12, that will launch you from 0 - 62 mph in 4.6 seconds. Finally the CL 55 AMG, a supercharged 5.5 litre V8 is the power plant for the CL 55 AMG, 0 - 62 mph is achieved in a little under 5 seconds and as with all CL Coupe's the top speed is limited to 155 mph. The CL 500 transmits its power to the tarmac using the Mercedes 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic gearbox both the CL 600 and the CL 55 AMG use a five speed automatic to handle the immense amount of torque these engines produce.
