2009 New BMW 6 Series Convertible Review
Carrying on BMW's tradition of producing stunning coupe's and convertibles with outstanding levels of comfort and practicality, the BMW 6 Series takes all of these to a new level and beyond. One word sums up the BMW 6 Series, astounding. In a choice of either Coupe or Convertible the performance of all models in the 6 Series range has been electronically limited to a mind blowing 155 mph, but that should just about be enough.
The BMW 6 Series is available with a choice of two different all aluminium engines with four-valve technology. The BMW 6 Series 630i is powered by a six cylinder, 24 valve, 3.0 litre engine developing 258 hp through a six speed manual gearbox, the BMW 6 Series 650i has an eight cylinder Vee engine with four-valve technology pumping out a massive 367 bhp through its six speed manual gearbox. Both engines come with the options of automatic transmission or the SMG sequential manual gearbox. Both the 630i and 650i, coupe and convertible's, come with a massive amount of equipment as standard including 17" star spoke alloy wheels (style 117) on the 630i and 18" Radial alloy wheels (style 118) on the 650i, both with locking wheel nuts, run flat tyre technology, servotronic steering, sports suspension, bi-xenon headlights with conductor rings, door handles in body colour, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors in body colour - heated and aspheric, front and rear bumpers in body colour, fog lamps with free form reflector, complete front end made from aluminium including bonnet and doors, fully automatic lined soft top with retractable heated glass rear screen - convertible only, heated windscreen washer jets, individual white indicators, polished stainless left and right exhaust pipes, driver and passenger airbags (impact dependant), advanced head protection system - coupe only, category 1 Thatcham alarm, central locking, dynamic stability control plus - includes antilock braking system, automatic stability control, cornering brake control, dynamic brake control, dynamic traction control and electronic brake force distribution, green tinted laminated glass, rain sensor including auto headlight control, windscreen wiper control and condensation sensor, park distance control with pictogram display, side impact protection, tyre puncture warning system (TPWS), advanced auto air conditioning with anti misting and solar sensor, automatic interior dimming rear view mirror, control display with 6.5" colour screen, programmable cruise control, electric driver and front passenger seat adjustment - including adjustment for backrest, seat height and tilt functions (with three stage memory for driver's seat, electric window lifts including anti trap function and comfort closing, front windscreen fogging sensor, ruthenium pearl gear lever trim, iDrive controller on centre console, sports steering wheel, BMW business radio / single CD player with six speakers (CD preparation for six disc CD multichanger in glove box), Hi-Fi loudspeaker system including two front tweeters (25W), two front and rear mid-range speakers (25W), two sub woofers (40W), and an amplifier, onboard computer including journey computer, fuel consumption, outside temperature display and speed limit function and a ruthenium pearl gloss interior trim.
With all of that as standard it's a wonder why anyone would need anything else, but if you do need that little bit more luxury you could always go for the BMW 6 Series Sport option, sitting on 19" star spoke alloy's (style218) with run flat tyres, the Sport also has anthracite head lining, high gloss dark birch wood interior trim, high gloss shadow line, driver and front passenger lumbar support, sports seats and an M Sports steering wheel all as an addition to the standard model.
