2008 New Lexus SC 430 Review
Originally launched in 2001 the Lexus SC 430 Roadster was aimed primarily at the American market and to take sales away from Mercedes in that market. 2003 saw the suspension being re-tuned to suit the European market and in 2005 other changes were made to bring the SC 430 more in line with the rest of the Lexus range. A new-look front grille, bumper, headlamps and indicators have all been added. Also the front fog lights have been modified and at the back, new LED lighting has too been introduced. Although most of the changes have been cosmetic there are some major changes under the skin, most noticeable is the electronically controlled six speed automatic gearbox that is used on the LS and GS models. This six speed automatic transmission has an optional override for manual sequential gear range selection, designed for those seeking a more involved driving experience . As a result of the new gearbox you get better acceleration alongside an improvement in both fuel economy and vehicle emissions. Everyone's a winner. Powered by a 282 bhp 4.3 litre V8, the SC 430 accelerates from 0 Â? 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds, keep going and the SC 430 will finally top out at an electronically limited 155 mph. Fuel consumption on the combined cycle is 24.8 mpg. The roof on the SC 430 is a work of art that folds, at the touch of a button, into the boot in just under 25 seconds. This design offers much better structural rigidity, wind noise is reduced and greater safety is achieved in the event of a rollover. The air conditioning system is just as clever as the roof, recognising if the roof is up or down, this system automatically adjusts airflow and sends targeted blasts to areas where cold air collects, allowing the driver to lower the roof even on those colder days. As with all the Lexus range, the SC 430 Roadster has an extremely high level of specification including a Mark Levinson 9-speaker stereo hi-fi system together with a 3-wave-band RDS radio with 18 pre-set channels and Dolby cassette 6-disc CD auto changer, bluetooth connectivity with built in speakers, microphone and steering wheel mounted controls for hands-free phone use for compatible mobiles, climate-control air conditioning, cruise control, a DVD-based touch-screen Lexus Navigator System with voice recognition and electronic traffic avoidance, high intensity discharge headlamps, a key-integrated comprehensive vehicle security system including alarm, immobiliser and double locking, leather upholstery, a 3-spoke wood and leather steering wheel, 18" alloy wheels, metallic or pearlescent paint, tyre pressure monitoring system, photochromic rear view mirrors, ventilated front disc brakes, electric windows, front fog lights, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BAS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control System (TRC), electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), electrically multi-adjustable heated front seats with memory function and lumbar support, electrically multi-adjustable steering wheel position and speed-sensitive power-assisted steering all as standard. Quite a list and that's without listing the host of airbags. Like the looks of the Lexus SC 430, why not check out the BMW Z4 Roadster, the Mercedes SLK or the Audi TT.
