2008 New BMW 7 Series ReviewBMW's 7 Series luxury saloon is a hugely impressive drive, but its striking lines and sweeping curves have not stirred everyone's imagination, but if it's a luxury saloon you are looking for, this one does exactly what it says on the tin. With huge power outputs all delivered through silky smooth six speed automatic steptronic transmissions, the 7 Series gives the impression of a rocket propelled magic carpet ride. Entry level on the 7 Series is either the 730i or 730d, both the petrol and the diesel variants have three litre, 6 cylinder engines developing 258 and 231 hp respectively through their six speed automatic transmissions with control buttons mounted in the steering wheel. Standard equipment on the base models includes, 17Â? seven spoke alloy wheels (style 165), servotronic power steering, remote control alarm system, anti lock braking system (ABS), central locking with electronic immobiliser, crash sensor and the tank filler cap integrated into the central locking, driver and front passenger impact dependant airbags, head and side airbags front and rear, dynamic stability control (DSC) with dynamic traction control (DTC), front fog lights, interior mirror with auto anti dazzle, rain sensor with auto headlight activation, park distance control (PDC), tyre puncture warning system Â? run flat indicator (RFI), auto air conditioning including auto air recirculation with seperate driver and front passenger controls, front and rear centre armrests, CD player, loudspeaker system with six speakers, electric seat adjustment, electronic steering column adjustment with memory, electric windows front and rear with fingertip control, anti trap facility and comfort closing all round, multi function controls on the steering wheel, Nasca leather upholstery, on board computer, revised controller and control display with 6.5 inch monitor, interior wood trim, electrically adjustable and heated blue tinted exterior mirrors, heated screen washer nozzles, xenon headlights and metallic paint. Moving up a level are the 730Li and the 730Ld, both have the same power units as the entry models but also have self levelling rear suspension and a sunblind for the rear windscreen in addition to the to the equipment mentioned above. All four of these models can be upgraded to the SE level of trim again it's the same engine and transmission but these vehicles have 18Â? double spoke alloy wheels (style 174), Bluetooth telephone with telematics preparation, professional navigation system and voice control all in addition to the standard equipment. Next in the 7 Series range are the 740i and the 750i, firstly the 740i, powered by a four litre V8 engine with four valve technology, the 740i develops 306 hp and is electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph. The 750i is again limited to 155 mph but with a 4.8 litre, V8 engine delivers massive amounts of torque through the six speed automatic transmission. Both variants sit on 18Â? star spoke alloys (style175) and in addition to the 730i SE and 730d SE models, have a six CD auto changer above the glove compartment, a glass sunroof, hi-fi loudspeaker system and heated seats for the driver and font passenger including lumbar support. The 740Li and 750Li also have self-levelling rear suspension and a sunblind for the rear windscreen over and above the spec for the 740i and 750i. The 730i SE, 740i, 750i and the 730d SE can all be upgraded to the Sport level of trim. Sport models have 19Â? V spoke alloy wheels (style 126), high gloss shadow line, sports seats in pearl leather upholstery, sports suspension including dynamic drive package, Vavona matt wood trim and three spoke sports steering wheel all in addition or in replacement of standard equipment on their sister vehicles. Finally the 760i and 760 Li, both powered by a six litre, V12, 48 valve engine with direct injection technology, they deliver a massive 445 hp through their six speed auto transmissions. Electronically limited to 155 mph, these two really do deliver torque in tree stump pulling proportions. Equipment in addition to the 740i and 750i on these vehicles includes 18Â? ten spoke alloy wheels (style91), the adaptive ride package including electronic damper control and dynamic drive, alcantara head lining, auto boot lid operation, burr walnut wood trim with patterned inlays, climate laminated glass all round, comfort seats all round, extended leather coverage for the dashboard, doors and centre console, Logic 7 professional hi-fi loudspeaker system, interior mirror with automatic anti dazzle function, folding exterior mirrors with automatic anti dazzle function, hand stitched leather instrument panel, roof grab handle in nasca leather and soft close access for all the doors.
